One of the few true native Floridians, David Rigell was born and raised in Titusville, Florida. In junior high, Mr. Rigell realized that in addition to the usual interest in sports, camping and other outdoor activities, he developed a love of music and musical instruments. By high school, as an accomplished guitarist and bass player, he was performing with local bands. Although he considered a major in music, he soon decided on a course of studies in pre-law which resulted in his graduation from the University of Florida in 1976 with Honors.
Upon graduation from the University of Florida College of Law in 1979, Mr. Rigell began his legal career specializing in workers' compensation and personal injury in West Palm Beach. For the first decade of his practice, he maintained a heavy trial practice which was almost equally divided between personal injury and workers' compensation cases. He became Board Certified in Civil Trial Law in 1988 and achieved Board Certification in Workers' Compensation in 1994.
Since founding his own firm in 1993, Mr. Rigell has limited his practice to the defense of workers’ compensation matters and other employment-related litigation. In addition to the practice of law, Mr. Rigell enjoys presenting interesting and innovative seminars on topics of interest to his clients and other professional organizations. He is a regular speaker for the WCCP and its Adjuster Board Certification courses. He has also been a featured speaker at the Florida Workers’ Compensation Educational Conference.
Mr. Rigell has personally received an “AV” rating from the prestigious Martindale-Hubbell Law Directory. Also, he has been designated by the American Research Corporation as a Leading Florida Attorney, an honor accorded to less than 5 percent of the attorneys licensed to practice in Florida. Both of these honors are based upon confidential recommendations from lawyers and judges throughout South Florida. However, the highest honor Mr. Rigell received was in 2000 when he was presented with the Kennie Edwards Memorial Award which is given “to the workers' compensation attorney who best exemplifies the professional qualities of honesty, integrity, cordiality, good humor, high ethical standards, and advocacy tempered by a sense of humility.” In 2009, Mr. Rigell was honored as the "Most Outstanding Defense Lawyer" by the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Friends of 440.
When he is not busy, Mr. Rigell still enjoys playing guitar. His other interests include spending time with his wife, four children and granddaughter, boating and gardening.
